Review: When I first seen the new ad for the MacBook Air on the TV my jaw dropped!

The sleek silver and black look was oustanding and followed Apple's "new look". The thickness or should I say thiness of the Air was quite outstanding! Who knew a notebook could be so slim and still be a decent Mac?

Well for this sleek slim laptop there are many sacrafices, and in my book they are the most important.

The fact that Apple are charging a rediculous £1199 for it really takes the biscuit. For one there is no optical drive and who wants to be lugging that USB drive around? No me thats for sure. Not to mention it uses up the one and only USB port on the Air. C'mon Apple, the days are gone where notebooks only have one USB port This is 08 not 98! Ok, I know you can "remote disc" but please, if im expected to pay all that and still have to have my old XP pc cluttering up my lounge just to play cd's or dvd's i'd seriously wonder if I had a bang to the head!

I have used Windows all my life untill I went to college and used eMac's and at that point I knew I had to have a Mac, so I went and got a MacBook. I paid £699 plus £80 for OS X Leopard and got a 2.00 GHz processor, much faster than the 1.6 GHz or the 1.8 GHz one's featured on the Air, 1024MB RAM, 80GB hard drive, DVD drive, 2x USB ports, 1x Ethernet port, 1x FireWire port and a replacable battery. Much better spec although the memory is less it can easily be upgraded.

Now for that battery! What is that all about? What happens if I have to take an 8 hour trip to a confrence in London and I have to work all the way there, I cant just change to my spare battery, oh no! I have to wait untill im near a socket so I can charge my Air! Not thinking very practical are we Apple?

My opinion, dont be tempted ny the slim and sleek look, its just eye candy!
Pros: Small unit with large good quality screen and keyboard.
Cons: Where do I begin!

No optical drive.

No FireWire or Ethernet port.

Only 1x USB port.

Price, not worth the money.

Only a 1.6GHz on the cheaper model.

No replaceable battery.

Not upgradeable freindly.
